- IS IT SAFE TO TRAVEL TO SPAIN (GRAN CANARIA) RIGHT NOW? -

Spain is ready for international tourism and travellers. It is a safe vacation destination, so be prepared to enjoy the sun and the beaches safely. Almost 80 percent of the adult population is fully vaccinated, so there is less chance to get Covid-19 from locals. Gran Canaria’s hotels and other businesses take strict measures to make sure that facilities are cleaned and properly disinfected, making sure that there are limited occupancy levels and that people as much as possible keep proposed social distances.
In Gran Canaria, there are a lot of medical centres where you can perform Covid-19 diagnostic tests or rapid antigen tests to make sure you are not infected with Covid-19. Also, international travellers can get free insurance with Covid-19 coverage during their vacation. (For more information see here: https://www.hellocanaryislands.com/covid-19-travel-insurance-policy/ ).
The Spanish government introduced the EU Digital COVID certificate that is beneficial to European Union citizens to travel to Spain. A person travelling with an EU Digital COVID certificate does not have to test themselves and their entry to the country is shorter. They enter Spain with a QR Fast Control code.
Spain restricts entry to the country from high-risk countries, to make sure the spreading of Covid-19 and new strain Omicron is limited. The list of risk and high-risk countries is updated weekly, so it is imperative to check it before coming on vacation. Please check this interactive map to see what entering Gran Canaria Covid-19 testing and vaccination requirements are, coming from different countries of origin.
